Update as of July 2017: As you can see the family continues to grow. On April 11, 2017 while James and I were at our first outdoor track meet of this last spring, Jessica called to say something was amiss with her ultra sound. After a second check the doctor realized that one baby was growing well and the other was not, so it was a C-section that night. Twins: Marshall and Lily were born just before midnight, with Lily being the larger of the two. They spent some time in the Neonatal unit, but are out and growing and doing all sorts of baby things at this time. Keep checking in and we keep hitting update!!

Update as of February 27, 2017. The family has grown. We now have two married daughters. Jessica married Tony on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017. It was really special that they asked me to be their officiant. It was a wedding and family confirmation ceremony all at once, as Tony already has two daughters, Kenlee and Alyse. The day after the ceremony we hosted a baby shower for Jessica. She is due with twins sometime in May. Victoria and Nate have added another little boy to the photo at the top. Jaxon is now 7, Ana 2 1/5 and David is 1. James and I look much older and Paulina is currently a Junior/Sophomore at the University of Jamestown (depending on academics or athletics in that order). We are still working in the same places and look forward to the next track and field season, and as old as we feel sometime life seems to be speeding up rather than slowing down.

In Jan. 2014 I began a position as Pastor of St. Paul’s UCC Church in Eureka, SD. This is a part-time, but permanent position for me. I have learned and grown both spiritually and personally from this experience. At my installation, I received lots of nice cards and gifts, but the best advice was from a very good friend, who was the Rev. in Wishek, ND, but is now in Redfield, SD. She said the main thing you need to do as a Pastor is love your congregation. I am starting to understand that, and I see that it is not just good advice, but it is what happens as you give in to the position. Getting to know these people, I can’t help but want only the best for all of them. Amazing how that feels. No wonder God keeps giving us chances.

I also continue to substitute teach and help my husband with his track team. I have several photos of my family, but need to add a new one. We took one at the installation in April and one at my nephew’s wedding in June, which was in the backyard of my mother’s house next door. The daughters have been updated in the paragraph below.

[Old version this was from the beginning of my blog in 2011–I am a former high school English teacher, who has become a substitute teacher. For the past two years I have also helped my husband with his track team. I also substitute preach in a couple of local UCC churches when the full-time clergy is on vacation.]

As of July. 2017: I have three daughters, two sons-in-law, three grandsons, four granddaughters and a very nagged husband. Our oldest daughter works for North Dakota Farmers Union, which is headquartered in Jamestown, ND. Her husband works as a chef at a local restaurant, they have twins less than a year old and two older girls who live with their mother in Mandan.

Our middle daughter and her family live in western North Dakota. She runs a daycare while also caring for their two sons, one is seven and will be in second grade and the other will be two at Thanksgiving and a 3 year old sassy pants daughter. Nate’s employer supplies pipes and other items as well as housing and offices for oil companies (his part of the company), so they have been affected by the big boom, and now the slow down. Nate started as a service technician, and currently is the assistant manager of their branch which shrinks and grows as the price of oil drops and rises. It is interesting work for a criminal justice major.

Our youngest daughter is in her hopefully final year of college now at the University of Jamestown. She has decided to major in education in the social sciences, and so far is surviving out from under her mother’s scrutiny. She joined the track and field team as a thrower and has enjoyed being a Jimmie even making the National Meet in the Indoor Weight Throw.

I also spend some of my time working on some of the properties owned in conjunction with my three sisters. Our mother left us four quarters of pasture and farmland as well as two houses and a campsite to manage together. Some days I wonder if we shouldn’t just sell it all and retire, then I think of how hard she worked to keep it for us, and I realize that I can’t be that selfish.

I come from a German-Russian background and am politically a social liberal, but a financial conservative, figure that one out. I enjoy writing, gardening, sitting on the porch drinking coffee, knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading, being with family and hanging out with our two cats. Maybe not in that exact order…
