Today my youngest child turned 20. I can’t even say it technically happens at such and such p.m. because Paulina was the baby that showed up in the wee hours of the morning. It was around 2 a.m. and was likely the least hours of labor just more of the evening and night when I so wanted to just go to sleep. She was probably being kind to the doctor. Our real normal check through the whole pregnancy doctor was out of town, so we just went to the hospital and took who we could get. Dr. Johnson was on call, so he said came and did a check after he was finished with supper. Then he and his wife went to the movies which was just a couple of blocks from the hospital. It was a late night for all of us, or perhaps an early morning. She was born on a Sunday, and gave the sisters a great show and tell in church that morning. They came to see her all dressed up in their Sunday best. We have pictures of them holding her a little before they went to church. I suppose it would have been ok for them to skip that day, but it was just too much fun for them to get to report on the event that they couldn’t stay back. I was happy to have the sleep while they were there.
James is the one who must have been tired out. He stayed with us for a time after the delivery. The ward was really busy that night and the nurses left her with us for “bonding.” I think the main reason was the two or three other births across the hall and such. They just couldn’t keep up with it all. Not quite like Jess and Vic, who were snatched away immediately and not returned until the nurses had their fun of bathing and dressing and playing with a new baby.
So today Paulina was at home when we got up to leave for school. She has no Thursday classes and took the day off work. Boy is this a different generation. She was in church last night with James and we had supper together. Today she will chill out with the cats who are the ones that prevented her from sleeping in. They wanted her to open her presents in the morning while we were still home rather than wait until tonight. She is coming to Linton to the basketball game, mainly because she has to have the oil changed in her car and that can be done there. Below I have a couple of pictures of the sunrise this morning. They aren’t the best because they were taken on the iPad from the moving car, but I mainly wanted to capture the colors for future use if I ever get the paints out. The other picture is the gifts we gave Paulina.
Paulina and Grandma were both born in February and both had names starting with P. Grandma is actually the one who chose her name. Paulina was a large baby and many in the family were hoping that meant two babies since one of my grandmothers was a twin. The other name I had if by chance there were two was Patricia Ann. Never got to use it, but that is how things go. Hope you have/had a great first day of being 20, Paulina!!! No more teenagers in my house. What a deal!
