April opens as Lent is closing. We start with the remembrance of Jesus’ betrayal and death on the cross and by the first Sunday, we are celebrating the resurrection. It is the season of new life in all species from the farm animals of calves and lambs and kids to the deer having fawns and all sorts of critters with young in their dens. Even the birds are returning and beginning to put nests together. I know the nest issue in a very real way, as we need to move a nest of sparrows on our porch. It seems they believe their best home is right above the light. In Luke 12: 6-7, Jesus says, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. …Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Jesus said we are of more value than many sparrows, yet not one of them is forgotten by God, how much more are we valued and loved? God loves us, even us in our impatient and hurried life, even when we are too busy for anything except what we deem is necessary. Spring is a time of year when we believe there is not enough daylight in 24 hours. We plan and hurry and fret to get everything accomplished. It is spring and whether we are working to put in the crop or clean out the cobwebs of winter, we should not forget to spend time connecting to the Savior who gave his life so that we might live with him in all eternity. Take time this month to pause and thank God for all you have, but also take time to lay your burdens, your cares and your needs at His feet. God loves us and only wants what is best for us. If God remembers the sparrows, you know he remembers you. Happy Spring!
