Fire

This morning as James was preparing for school and I was on the iPad because I will go to the funeral and not to school, the fire whistle blew. We wondered what it was. Is it a fire or an accident? Later my phone signaled a text message, I didn’t bother. Eventually I found the phone and checked on it, my youngest sister said it was the café/bar on Main Street of town. That is the place my mother owned many years ago. She was in there for what, help me out her family, like almost 20 years. Yes, it was 1984 first summer she did the all-school reunion, and in 2004 when Jessica graduated, her reception was there.

I am not making any statements here about the place or its current owners. I am just posting these pictures to show my family who lives and works out-of-town, what you can see from the outside. To me the timing is ironic. As in the timing of the cosmos. My mother passed away 4 years ago this week. We have back to back funerals in town, yesterday and today, for two women who were her friends, neighbors and very good customers. As I said before, I wonder where they are sitting at the table today. And mostly, I am hoping they keep a place for me when it is my turn to join them.

John 14:1-3 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many mansions. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.” Technically the NRSV says dwelling places not mansions, but I cannot help but use the language that I learned this verse in childhood. I want to think God has mansions for us.

Take care and stay warm!!

That place will always be “OUR” place and I felt really awful when I heard about it. So many good memories there. Hopefully, they get it going again. It would really be a big hole on Main Street if they don’t!

Just as I got your text, we were discussing the omens in the first act of Julius Caesar. Incredible timing. We were talking about fire raining from the sky.

Thanks for the pictures. I noticed people walking into the building this morning when I was leaving my business. I wondered what was happening but thought they were open for a special group. Interesting – hope they get it fixed and open again soon. Lots of people enjoy that place.
