Auction Sale Day

Today I went to an auction sale. It was for a lady who has moved away some time ago. She and her children and grandchildren came back to Eureka and packed up everything to sell. It has been planed for sometime, and so that is how it is when families move away. I am too much like my mother and love an auction bargain, and I love the thrill of finding out what treasures I might find in the box.

I could carry on and on about how it all went, but I will simply tell the story with the pictures I took when I got home.

The back of the van when it was all loaded.

Front passenger seat. Notice the long item all the way onto the dashboard. Good thing I didn't get picked up coming home.

Yesterday I sort of hinted that my Aunt Glenda should come along with me to the sale. Good thing that I went alone as I am not sure where she would have fit on the way home. I guess she could have sat in this chair if she would have worn the lamp shade as a hat. “Do you like my hat?”

The three lamps that I picked up for $1. total because no one would bid. I already have the one on the left in use, and Paulina has decided that she really wants it. Good luck getting it now. The price just went up.

Looks like a box of dressing up clothes to me. I seriously think this may have been her wedding stuff.

I adore these hangers. The lady, Irene, made these. They are so prefect with silky shirts. They never fall off these hangers. And you can't buy them at a discount store.

A box of drinking glasses. I didn't count them, but I know I paid about 50 cents each or less.

Jars, I wanted more of the wide mouth. I paid $6, per box, someone said that new ones aren't much more. Then I pulled out the blue one and said, "But you can't buy these originals in the store."

Canner kettle, now my third, and a Christmas decoration, just needs a candle.

This end table had no scratch on it, and hopefully won't gain one before I get it into the house. I am tired of using plastic totes as end tables.

I am serious about the end table thing. For one winter after we bought a big cooler and couldn’t figure out where to store it, it was in the living room as the end table. Is that Dakota Hick decorating or what?

Best prize of the day was a $5 quilt stand set up. It is four stands and the stretcher boards to do a quilt. I guess that I will have to begin quilting the old fashioned way now. Of course I never did it at all before, so who knows what may happen.

This box wasn't on my radar, but it happens at sales sometime when you are bidding just for the fun of it, the other person stops.

In the long run, this really was a bargain box. I paid $9 and walked off with five pie plates, four cake pans and three casserole dishes with lids and one has a serving basket. All are glass in great condition. They really should have separated these out more, but I like it. Now if only I baked pies.

When I arrived home, I nearly peed myself over this note on the fridge. Paulina had taken my smug House Rules and turned them over and put her own rules up. You can see them below. I will give you the information on the final two boxes tomorrow. They were Christmas ornaments, and it is after 11 p.m. and I have this thing called a sermon left to finish up.

Paulina’s note is great! Thank goodness I didn’t go along! You would have had to strap me to the top of the van to get me home! You made some very nice purchases. I love the lamps!

Yes those lamps were a find. I just wish that I had bid earlier, there were four, but because I hesitated the auctioneer took one out and I heard him say it was the antique. Sadly that was the one I was looking to nab. Oh well, live and learn.

My hubby loves an auction, but he can never part with the “junk” in the box nobody wanted either. As a result, I have an attic full of crap my kids are going to have to deal with when I am dead! I can’t even sneak it out. So, there it will live. Occasionally I trip over a useful item he has stored…like the grocery sack full of drinking glasses from 1960, all wrapped gently in saran-wrap to keep them from breaking. When I picked up the bag (or tried), the grocery sack crumbled in my hands. The glasses survived, and we use them ever day ! Now, get to bakingsome nice pies ! 🙂 Enjoy your nice lamps on the end table too!!!

My dad always loved a good auction, just like you. He doesn’t go to many anymore…we’re trying to get rid of some of his “extra” stuff now. P.S. Love the note!
