Because I’m Happy….

Wow! As of a couple of days ago, I didn’t even know who Pharrell Williams was/is or any of that. but today we are still singing his song, Happy. I have printed the chorus below.

Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do

Why are we happy, well it is because of the great day yesterday. It was the regional track and field meet to get the last of the qualifiers in to the state meet. We had some outside chances and some real outside chances and we had a few knocking hard on the door. It started as a 4th place day, this is sad because the top 3 finishers qualify for state. Here is the low down with girls first. We had 47 points and 5th as a team. 8th places-3 (also 3 in 9th which means nothing in terms of points or awards) 7th-1, no 6th; 5th -5; 4th-2; 3rd-2 and that was it.

Boys Division: 8th the boy who could have gone 8th in high jump allowed them to go up 2 inches then he missed all three and didn’t get the medal. There were only 8 entered, 8th grade mistake. no 7th or 5th places; 6th-1 boy in the 100, in the next race he was part of a messed up hand off and the relay team never finished. Ouch! 4th place this seemed to be a curse as we had 6 of them.

Now for the good part: Going in we had 1 triple jumper, 1 long jumper and 1 discus thrower qualified.

Thirds were: a Javelin thrower, a 200 runner, a 1600 runner. Even better were those who placed 2nd: the discus thrower, another javelin thrower, a 400 meter runner, a 3200 meter runner, a 110 hurdler, the 4×400 relay and the 4×200 relay, so that makes 7. And the lone champion was our triple jumper. The long jumper did other events as he can still jump at state since he qualified. In total there are 9 boys and 2 girls headed for state. Great day in the neighborhood.

Now the interesting part was where to finish as a boys’ team. James was shooting for second as we had been that in a number of meets this year. At one point we were second on the board. After the pole vault was entered we dropped to third because we don’t have the equipment for that event. When it was all over, I was looking on the board for us and we weren’t in third and not in second, and I was so confused until my eyes went to the top and there they were 1st place with a score of 117.

Second place had 113. It was a good thing that everyone stepped up and did their best. In the end, even those who scored in those bottom places made a difference. All in all, we are still happy!! And we are ready to clap along. Thanks for the great song Pharrell!

I would love to hear from you, so go ahead, comment!
