Catching up on some work

Earlier today I wanted to do a simple update on life around here, but got a little carried away with other things. I guess that is what happens some times. So, I did a few things around the house, including potting some of the slips that I had in a jar of water for a couple of weeks. I also finished off the blue beanie that has been on the needles far too long. Now I am finally sitting down to write-up the post I wanted to put together earlier.

I spent a little time this morning planting the slips that I have had in water for a few weeks. Umbrella plant in the back, red kalanchoe on the left and spider on the right.

It snowed again today. It wasn’t a major snowfall, but it was a steady dusting most of the day. The sun came out around 3 or 4 pm and by the time James and Kathy got home, it had finished. Kathy came into the house with James to help me make some decisions about the ministerial robe I am trying to sew. I was laying it out and trying to decide how much to alter it. In looking it over, she agreed the it was going to be way too long. Yes it is true that you can cut it off easier than adding on to the bottom, but…. For me it is easier to cut it before I start sewing than to do it after the seams are in place. We decided to take another two inches off the pattern. Hopefully I won’t need to do a large hem.

I also took it upon myself to change the pattern a bit in terms of how much over lapping there will be in the front for the zipper. I opted for a two inch over lap rather than 3.5 inches. If I wouldn’t have made that adjustment there is no way I would have been able to fit it on the material. I also fixed the back to put it on the fold rather than having a seam. I may regret some of those changes, but usually it works out.

I don’t have any pictures of the cutting out process. I think that this time I will just give you the finished product with a few updates from time to time. Hopefully I can get some time to work on it this week. My goal is to have it ready by Ash Wednesday. We will see.

The cats were silly last night. When I went up the steps at one point they were lined up like guards. By the time I got the camera out, Tigee had taken off down to the food. The second picture shows what I could see of her while she was eating. On the very bottom are two pictures of Sophia while James and I were having supper tonight. She wasn’t getting any attention, so she sat on the bookshelf in the dinning room.
