Sunshine

A photo with this much sun after so many days of gloom and almost doom needed to be in a larger size. Earlier today it was foggy and seemed all dreary. I was glad that I waited to take my photo of the day. This shot is from the school door closest to James’ classroom. The building in the background is the shop and the old gym roof is in the way background. After taking it, I started automatically singing the song by Leslie Gore, though I wasn’t really singing more than just the first line.

Sunshine, Lollipops And Rainbows
Lesley Gore

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that’s wonderful is what I feel when we’re together,
Brighter than a lucky penny,
When you’re near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.

My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
That’s how this refrain goes, so come on, join in everybody!

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that’s wonderful is sure to come your way
When you’re in love to stay.

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that’s wonderful is what I feel when we’re together,
Brighter than a lucky penny,
When you’re near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.

My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
That’s how this refrain goes, so come on, join in everybody!

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that’s wonderful is sure to come your way
‘Cause you’re in love, you’re in love,
And love is here to stay!

Here are a couple of shots of the plants inside James’ room. They are super happy about the sun today. What they would like even more is some better dirt and a shot of fertilizer. My next trip to Herreid, I will have to round-up some fertilizer.

Interesting that my day turned out with all the sunny thoughts. I was substituting for an elementary teacher, and though the students were great, I get worn out by the youth and energy of children that young. Wow! The only other issue I have with some of the youngest of the world are their requests for hugs. Let’s start with, I am not a touchy feely sort of person. Let’s move into the idea that teachers should NOT be touching children for any reason. I ended the day with telling one child he could NOT hug me then I suggested he hug his mother. About that time I heard the teacher across the hall burst out laughing. I guess sometimes, I just speak before I think. Anyway, I was happy to see the sun!!

Also thought of the following in terms of sunshine:

“Walking On Sunshine”

I used to think maybe you love me, now baby I’m sure
And I just can’t wait till the day, when you knock on my door
Now every time I go for the mail box, gotta hold myself down
’cause I just can’t wait till you write me, you’re coming around

[Chorus:]
I’m walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
I’m walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
I’m walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
And don’t it feel good (HEY!) Alright now
And don’t it feel good (HEY!) Alright now
All right now yeah! (HEY!)

I used to think maybe you love me, I know that it’s true
And I don’t wanna spend all of my life just waiting for you (just waiting for you)
Now I don’t want you back for the weekend, not back for a day, no, no, no
Baby I just want you back and I want you to stay

[Chorus]

Walking on sunshine
Walking on sunshine

I feel the love, I feel the love, I feel the love that’s really real
I feel the love, I feel the love, I feel the love that’s really real

I’m on sunshine baby yeah
I’m on sunshine baby yeah

[Chorus:]
I’m walking on sunshine whoa
I’m walking on sunshine whoa
I’m walking on sunshine whoa
And don’t it feel good hey alright now
And don’t it feel good hey alright now
And don’t it feel good hey alright now
And don’t it feel good hey alright now
I’m walking on sunshine
I’m walking on sunshine
I’m walking on sunshine
I’m walking on sunshine
I’m walking on sunshine

I tried to find who sang this and found two answers: Katrina and the Waves and also Eddie Grant.

Anyway, Have a sunny day!!!

Ponder this…what if a teacher is the only person to give the child a hug because the teacher is the only person that takes the time for the child…??? And yes I remember the family we were raised from that didn’t do the touchy huggy stuff.

I’d NEVER get a hug if it wasn’t for the kids at school and I KNOW that it may be the only one they get, too. Too bad our world has come to this.
